Esmeralda serves as a project specialist for the Center for Urban Education. She is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Michigan and received her B.A. in Political Science at the University of California Irvine. Her interests involve how institutions of higher education change to promote equity and social justice for racial-ethnic minorities and other underrepresented groups. Her dissertation in particular focuses on how administrators mobilize for change on their campuses around undocumented student support. In her role at CUE, Esmeralda applies her scholarly interests to practice by working with higher education practitioners to implement CUE’s theory of change.
