Román Liera is a doctoral candidate in the Urban Education Policy Ph.D. program at the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education. Román is a research assistant working with Dr. Estela M. Bensimon at the Center for Urban Education. He is a qualitative researcher who studies racial equity in student outcomes and faculty participation. Román uses critical, organizational, and sociocultural theories to centralize the experiences of racialized and minoritized people in higher education, and practitioners engaged in equity work. He transferred from Los Angeles Pierce College to San Diego State University where he earned a bachelor degree in Psychology and a master degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
